Abortion Cost South Dakota

• Abortion Pill Cost: $150-$1,100

Medication abortion also called the abortion pill, can be taken up to 10 weeks pregnant. The abortion pill can cost between $150 to $1,100 without insurance. Prices vary depending on the dosage required, the provider from whom you purchase it, and whether your insurance covers the cost. As of August 2026, the use of the abortion pill is currently banned in South Dakota.

• Suction Abortion Cost: $600-$979

Suction aspiration, also called suction curettage, or vacuum aspiration abortion, is performed between 5 to 12 weeks of pregnancy. The average cost of an in-clinic abortion in the first trimester (up to 13 weeks of pregnancy) is $600. However, prices can range from $600 to $979. As of August 2026, receiving a suction abortion is currently banned in South Dakota.

• D&E Abortion Cost: $715-$2,000

D&E abortion (dilation and evacuation procedure) is performed between 9-20 weeks of pregnancy. The cost of an in-clinic abortion in the second trimester (13 to 24 weeks of pregnancy) depends on how far along you are.

Early in the second trimester, the average cost is $715. Later in the second trimester, the cost can range from $1,500-2,000.  As of August 2026, receiving a D&E abortion is currently banned in South Dakota.

AS OF JUNE 24TH, 2022, THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS WERE IN PLACE:

• All methods of abortion (telemedicine, abortion pill, suction abortion, and D&E abortions) are currently banned.
• Exceptions are made only in cases where the mother’s life or health is severely endangered by her pregnancy.

The price of medical (non-surgical) and surgical abortion procedures can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars. This range is based upon a number of factors, including stage of pregnancy, type of abortion procedure, where you live, and the type of anesthesia used. Price also varies by provider; clinics and private practice abortionists typically offer lower costs than hospitals.
